Dr. Nate Currit (firstname.lastname@example.org), a Professor of Geography at Texas State University and Director of the Texas Center for Geographic Information Science. He holds a PhD from Penn State and BS and MS degrees from Brigham Young University. He has been at Texas State for 14 years and teach courses in remote sensing, advanced GIS, and spatial databases.
His presentation titled, “Segmentation and machine learning with hyperspatial imagery.” He presented research looking at patterns of deforestation in the Maya Biosphere Reserve of Guatemala. He discussed the situation and some of the causes and consequences of this deforestation. He emphasized the open source tools he used to create custom image processing techniques and GIS analysis and the obstacles that were overcome.
